Three materials cover almost every cable in the field, and the choice comes down to whether the label slides on, wraps around or seals over itself. All of them are genuine RHINO industrial cartridges, which fit the RHINO 4200, 5200 and 6000+ and will not load into a LabelManager or a LetraTag. That mismatch is the most common ordering mistake we see. The second most common is width: the 4200 and 5200 stop at 19mm, so the 24mm nylon and the 24mm self-laminating are for the 6000+ only.
- Heat shrink tube, 6mm to 19mm, black on white or yellow: slides over the conductor before termination and shrinks to fit
- Flexible nylon, 12mm to 24mm, black on white or yellow: wraps cable jackets and small round profiles without lifting
- 1734821 self-laminating vinyl, 24mm black on white: the print wraps the cable and a clear tail seals over it, 6000+ only
- Black on white: general identification, patch panels and comms racks
- Black on yellow: high visibility on dark cable and inside switchboards
Heat shrink is sized by the cable outside diameter, not by gauge, and it needs a heat gun to set. It is 3:1 shrink polyolefin, so use it wherever the marker must never come off and the cable is not yet terminated. Flexible nylon suits retrofits where you cannot break a termination to slide anything on, and it is the everyday cable wrap for most installers. Self-laminating suits patch leads and anything handled often, because the overlaminate protects the print from abrasion. Whichever you pick, allow enough length for the wrap to overlap itself rather than butt the ends together.
