How to Choose DYMO RHINO Flexible Nylon Tape

Flexible nylon is the RHINO cartridge for cable, wire and anything with a tight radius. The nylon face is made to bend right around a conductor and stay down, where a stiffer tape would spring back and lift at the ends, and it holds on rough and textured surfaces where a rigid tape peels. It is rated from minus 40C to 90C. It is a genuine RHINO industrial cartridge, so the 12mm and 19mm sizes fit the RHINO 4200, 5200 and 6000+ as well as the older 1000, 3000, 5000 and 6000; the 24mm cartridge fits the 6000+ only. None of it fits LabelManager or LetraTag machines.

  • 18488, 12mm black on white - patch leads, data cable and small diameter wire
  • 18489, 19mm black on white - the common size for power cable and cable bundles
  • 1734524, 24mm black on white - larger looms and wraps that need a long description, 6000+ only
  • 18490, 12mm black on yellow - warning and caution wording that has to be noticed
  • 18491, 19mm black on yellow - high visibility marking on plant and switchboard cable

Work out the radius first. Around cable, wire or a small round fitting, nylon is the tape that stays put once it is wrapped. On flat panel work permanent polyester is the better buy, and on larger curved surfaces such as pipe or a textured wall, vinyl is enough. Then match the width to the diameter you are wrapping, allowing enough tail for the label to overlap itself rather than butting the ends together. Each cartridge holds 3.5 metres, less than vinyl or polyester, so a busy installer carries two.

Data cablers, electricians and switchboard builders across Australia treat nylon as their default for cable and wire identification, and DymoOnline has stocked nothing but genuine DYMO since 2009. Where a label is handled often or pulled through a duct, self-laminating vinyl lasts longer, and for markers fitted before termination use heat shrink tube. All three load into the same RHINO industrial label makers, and cable and wire ID shows them side by side. Free shipping over $149.
