The DYMO LabelWriter 550, part number 2119729, is a direct thermal desktop printer that prints up to 62 labels a minute at 300 dpi. There is no ink, toner or ribbon, so the label roll is the only thing you ever reorder. It connects by USB to one computer and runs on the free DYMO Connect for Desktop software.
The 550 is the entry point of a three model ladder, and the choice comes down to two questions: how wide are your labels, and how many do you print an hour. The 550 takes standard LabelWriter labels up to 62mm wide, which covers 36 x 89mm address, 54 x 101mm shipping and 59 x 190mm lever arch. It will not print the 104 x 159mm four by six inch courier label, and neither will the Turbo. For that size you need the wide format LabelWriter 5XL. If you want the same labels but faster and shared over the network, the LabelWriter 550 Turbo is simply the faster 550, at up to 90 labels a minute with an Ethernet port.
Automatic Label Recognition reads the installed roll and reports its size, type and how many labels are left, which stops a long run starting on a nearly empty spool. That feature works with authentic DYMO labels only.
